JAMAICA (WABC) — A household from Lengthy Island, who owns a resort in Jamaica, is racing in opposition to time to arrange for Hurricane Melissa, a storm forecasted to have a catastrophic affect on the Caribbean island.
Freeport, Lengthy Island native Winthrop Wellington is operating out of time to guard his family-owned seaside resort, and its 30 stranded lodge friends and workers alongside the well-known seven-mile seaside in Negril, Jamaica.
Wellington is the proprietor of Travellers Seashore Resort.
“I’ve an eerie feeling that it was going to vary Jamaica ceaselessly,” he stated.
Melissa, a historic Class 5 hurricane, will quickly make landfall, with Negril in its bullseye.

Born and raised on Lengthy Island, Wellington and his two youthful brothers grew up in Freeport.
Their dad slowly constructed Travellers Seashore Resort, handing Wellington the keys after graduating from faculty.

“I really feel extra assured at being right here at Travellers than if I have been to remain the place I used to be residing,” stated Brooklyn native Kenya Wagstaff.
Wagstaff spoke to Eyewitness Information from the resort foyer.
Wagstaff just lately moved to Jamaica, a lower-lying space.
Melissa will probably be Wagstaff’s first hurricane.
