Artemis II’s journey as far as it leaves Earth’s orbit … in 85 seconds


The 4 astronauts on Nasa’s Artemis II mission are the primary people since 1972 to depart Earth’s orbit.

Commander Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen at the moment are on a looping path that may carry them across the far aspect of the Moon and again once more.

Their 10-day journey will ferry them as much as 252,799 miles (406,840km) from Earth, exceeding the earlier report set by Apollo 13 – 248,655 miles – in 1970.

The crew won’t be touchdown on the Moon on this present mission, and can as a substitute use it to arrange for a possible lunar touchdown by 2028.
