More than 100 cats killed in fire at cat sanctuary in Medford, Long Island

Authorities say that greater than 100 cats had been killed in a fireplace at a cat sanctuary in Medford, Lengthy Island.

MEDFORD, Lengthy Island (WABC) — The proprietor of a cat sanctuary and a minimum of 100 cats had been killed in a fireplace on Monday morning.

The blaze broke out round 7:15 a.m. on the Completely satisfied Cat Sanctuary on Dourland Street.

Officers say the proprietor was killed in addition to a minimum of 100 cats.

There have been 300 cats inside on the time of the fireplace and officers say the proprietor went again into the house to rescue the animals.

The investigation is ongoing into the reason for the fireplace.
