HUNTS POINT, the Bronx (WABC) — The sticky black substance oozing onto Tuxton Road appeared straight out of a film scene.
On Wednesday afternoon, the FDNY responded to a hazardous spill within the industrial Bronx neighborhood of Hunts Level.
A punctured tanker sprayed the highway with the thick, oil-like materials often known as liquid asphalt — satirically used to restore cracks in roads, now solely making a hazardous mess.
FDNY staff rapidly arrived on the scene to cordon off and comprise the rising slick.
Sizzling liquid asphalt is harmful to return into contact with. One responding firefighter was handled for a minor harm.
“There have been 35 tons within the tanker itself. We’re not sure how a lot obtained out,” stated FDNY Battalion Chief Walter Kowalski. “It’s like glue. Extraordinarily sticky, and dangerously sizzling.”
